Arcades in Japan ROCK!
By Simone Smith
Arcades in Japan are unlike arcades in any other country- not just because the games are awesome, but thanks to...
- The skilled players (watch some of the people in these videos!)
- The particular wave of sound that hits you as you walk through them
- The design and appearance of the games
So if you find yourself in Japan, you'll have to wander through a couple! You won't have trouble finding some- Masumi Akagi of Japan's Game Publisher magazine once reported that there are 9,500 arcades in the country containing over 445,000 machines.
Visiting arcades in Japan is practically a pilgrimage for me, since so many of the world's most popular arcade games were first developed in this country, and many games that we've yet to widely adopt in the States can be found in Japanese arcades.
The arcade in this particular video is in the Don Quijote complex in Akihabara, Tokyo. This is the same building that houses the @home maid cafe and in which AKB48 performs. It also has several floors of discount stores. If you're into otaku culture or electronics, Akihabara should be a mandatory stop on any future visit to Japan, though you will find several great arcades in nearly every city in the country.
Akihabara - GREAT Arcades & Much More - The specific address is: Don Quixote Akihabara-ten, 4-3-3 Soto-kanda, Chiyoda-ku , Tokyo

Wow, that was an amazing arcade! I can't believe how fast some of the people were playing those games! They would make me look very bad!
Personally, I think the arcade looks normal. Maybe I'll have to go there to experience it. I am so excited!
Your self-made video was a very creative way to start this hub. Took me right into your story. Thanks.
Wow, it is nice! I hope to visit someday!
Interesting read and your video tells the story in a great way! Even though I don't play arcade games so much myself I found this hub both interesting and awesome! Thanks.

DDR is awesome!!! I bet you're hella good at it, ezhang. I know I'm not!!!
I know, right??? SuperheroSales, I was just as astounded as you were watching those folks. They make most American gamers look positively naive.
They're definitely something to experience in person, wanzulfikri. My furtive and crappy video does them no justice at all!
Thanks JSParker! I'm so pleased that you like the format.
I hope you'll have the opportunity to travel to Japan very soon, chanroth!
And thanks thoughtforce! I don't play arcade games much either, but I sure do find them fascinating!
