"Changing the oil is the life of your car" was my Granny's advice to me and all of the grandchildren. We do this often because of travel. Keeping the inside clean and vacumed out is a good idea too. We recently got our inside cabin filter changed which had not been changed  since we got the car years ago. I like to wash the car which gives Michael a break because of his back. We hardly ever wax it though, and I know we should.
