Hello Kitty Acoustic Guitars - a Buyer's Guide

By

The other day, I was googling around for more information on acoustic kitty - you know, that poor cat that got microphone and recording equipment implants courtesy of the CIA, that was run over on its first spy mission - and ended up stumbling upon Hello Kitty acoustic guitars in the process.

Acoustic kitty and Hello Kitty acoustic guitars. Who would have thought that one would lead to the other? I am very happy to report that the guitars have a much happier ending- at least most of the time.

If you're in the market for one of these Sanrio-ified instruments, there are several important factors to consider before making the purchase. I'll guide you through the basics, and after having a look at the guide, you should be ready to go ahead and get the hello kitty guitar- acoustic or otherwise- that best suits you. Then you can rock out to your cute heart's content.

Acoustic Hello Kitty Guitars

Prices for acoustic Hello Kitty guitars range from around $40 to $150 at the cheap and, and obviously sky's the limit when you start to consider high end and perhaps custom built acoustic guitars.

Though it might be tempting to buy one of the inexpensive acoustic guitars out there, consider first just what you'll be using this guitar for. Is this a Christmas gift to your daughter? Is she just getting started or expressing a simple, mild interest in learning how to play the guitar? If so, perhaps it's OK to go with something more generic.

But if you're buying this guitar for yourself, and you're pretty serious about playing, you might want to consider investing a bit more in this purchase. Acoustic guitars don't always come out sounding great. And not every acoustic guitar is going to be good for every type of musician.

Are you hoping to produce music with a nice, bright, poppy tone? Then you might want to have a guitar made with maple. Looking for something with more of a full, rich tone? Maybe you should get an acoustic guitar made with Alder.

And what about guitar bodies? Are you willing to just accept whatever comes with a Hello Kitty face painted on it, or do you have a preference for a classic body? Or perhaps a dreadnought or jumbo body style?

What I'm trying to say is that acoustic guitars for serious musicians can't just be purchased because they look pretty. They have to sound right. So consider getting a guitar that meets your needs- and then maybe jazzing it up with some custom Hello Kitty flourishes of your own design. This gets you the best of both worlds: good sound and good looks.

Before You Go Acoustic - Consider Electric Alternatives

Of course acoustic guitars have a certain romance to them- but what about electric guitars?

The Hello Kitty electric guitars available have some key benefits. One is that they're relatively cheap. This makes a big difference if you're looking to... oh... I dunno... scrape by with rent this month, or eat something other then Ramen noodles one day this week. Or if you're looking to just play this guitar occasionally for fun.

The other leg up that electric Hello Kitty guitars have is that the Hello Kitty-ness comes across a bit stronger. Electric guitars, in general, are much easier to decorate with bold, modern designs than acoustic guitars, which have a more traditional or rustic look to them. And let's face it- Hello Kitty design is inherently bold and modern.

Electric Hello Kitty guitars are also super well-reviewed online. I've included a couple of YouTube reviews below, and you can really see how excited all types of people are about these guitars. Obviously they're a lot of fun, and they don't sound too bad either.

These guitars range from about $60 (for cheap kids' guitars) to, well, thousands of dollars (as obviously custom guitars can be as expensive as you can imagine them to be).

So what is the ultimate electric Hello Kitty guitar? Definitely the Squier Hello Kitty Stratocaster electric guitar. It has rave reviews. It just seems to get people.

That said, there are some other options out there - most of them are pretty inexpensive; most of them are pretty; most of them sound fine. But if you do end up taking this route, I recommend getting the Squier one. Or else something entirely custom made.

Happy Shopping - And Don't Forget Acoustic Kitty

I hope this buyer's primer for Hello Kitty guitars has been somewhat helpful. I also hope that you get the Hello Kitty guitar of your dreams.

When you do, do me a favor: write and perform a song in memory of acoustic kitty. It'll be awesome and ironic. And someone needs to honor that poor feline's memory. It might as well be you and good ol' Kitty-chan.

Well, I'll totally forgive you for stomping into my acoustic guitar review niche. . . .

I hadn't realized that these guitars exist. It's definitely a good idea to start off cheap with an acoustic guitar. It's easy to want to play, but hard to invest the time and. . . .pain that is involved in playing well.

Forever in my mind is a blonde woman on television singing something about a smelly kitty. .. . .

My wife's girlfriend is a Hello Kitty freak - she's absolutely love this page!!!

From inexpensive very popular made in Japan toys (Hello, Kitty) to acoustic guitars. Who knew, Simone?

Hyphenbird 13 months ago

Just when I think I have seen it all......

This is a great review.

The niche is all yours, Wesman Todd Shaw. I'm just trying to speak up in the name of Acousitc Kitty. And that same blonde woman and her song came into my head when I was writing this Hub.......

And your wife's girlfriend has good taste, SimeyC!

Oh, the Kitty-chan empire seems to cover EVERYTHING, drbj. It amazes me to no end. And Hyphenbird- that's what I say every time I see a new entry on the Hello Kitty Hell blog - the brand seems to have a real knack at creating "Just when you think you've seen it all..." products O_O

Hi Wes,

Great review! I am intrigued by the Hello Kitty Strat. It seems that a lot of heavy metal players kind of like it too. I think it's the crunch that you can only get from a humbucker pickup. I would like to see a vibrato tailpiece and possibly a single coil pickup in the neck position. Of coarse the additional pickup would have to be placed in such a way as to not screw up Hello Kitty's face.

Oops, I thought Wes wrote this. Sorry Simone. Great review!

Wes writes most of the awesome guitar reviews- I just popped in for this one ;)

And you're totally right- the Hello Kitty Strat could use a vibrato tailpiece and another pickup.... but one must mind the face indeed! It would be uncouth to anger Kitty-chan.

Hi Simone, I have written a couple of Hello Kitty hubs, but never stumbled across Hello Kitty acoustic guitars before! They are very cute, but would it be hard to be taken seriously as a musician with a pink guitar with a white kitty face?

Simone Smith 13 months ago

Yeah, these guitars are a lot of fun! And the funny thing about their kawaii appearance is that it can either be played up or used ironically. I mean, a serious musician with a serious guitar is almost cliche... but one rocking out with Hello Kitty? Now, that's surprisingly fresh... tangy even!

My granddaughters are such a big fans of Hello Kitty, and they range in age from 6 to 22. I'm sure one of them would love one of the adorable Hello Kitty guitars!

Simone Smith 12 months ago

Oh, I bet they would, Stephanie Henkel!

It is looks like my friend guitar, very nice design.

lukecore 12 months ago

Eventually I will relent and buy my wife one of these. She's all about the Kitty!

Simone Smith 12 months ago

Oh, you would get major points for that one, lukecore!!

anglnwu 12 months ago

My daughter loves Hello Kitty. Now, if I can only get her interested in guitar, I may just about buy one as they are so terribly cute.

Simone Smith 12 months ago

Hehee- I know! I'm totally itching for an excuse to buy one myself.
