The Best Evil Girl Names
By Simone Smith
Good girls are overrated. Quite similarly, angelic names, which are overused and even given (albeit with delicious irony) to evil women, are way over-used. Someone needs to bring back evil names. They're excellent.
For your perusal, I have collected some of the greatest evil girl names. Some of them are inspired by actual evil women and girls in history; others belong to fictional characters. If you're expecting, I humbly suggest you consider one of these names for your evil spawn. If you're just looking for a name for one of your new goldfish, perhaps you, too, may find this listing inspiring. If your name is listed below, I tip my hat to you. Thanks for having an awesome, sinister name!
Evil Girl Names Inspired by History
There is something to be said for historical legacies. These names are evil not because of their sound, per se, but because of the mean girls who rode them to infamy.
- Beverly - This name belonged to Beverly Allitt, one of the most famous serial (child!) killers in the UK. She was also known as the Angel of Death!
- Belle - Cast aside your associations between this name and cute Disney movies; one ACTUAL previous owner of this name was Belle Gunness, another serial killer (and a tall one, at 6 feet) who killed various men and her own children in the name of insurance payouts
- Myra - This can be a somewhat evil-sounding name if you say it with the right inflection, but what spins Myra into true evil territory is Myra Hindley, who, with the help of an accomplice, abused, tortured, and murdered three children and two teenagers.
- Llse - What a pretty name, and what an evil woman who once possessed it! Ilse Koch was also known as the Witch of Buchenwald thanks to her penchant for torture (of Nazi concentration camp inmates) and her rather disgusting collection of victims' tattoos she kept as souvenirs.
- Irma - Irma sounds kind of like "irksome," giving it some evil-sounding potential, and Irma Grese adds weight to the name thanks to her brutal and sadistic work as a guard at Nazi concentration camps.
- Mary - Because of its popularity, this name has managed to rack up a decent number of evil possessors, including Queen Mary I (aka Bloody Mary), who was known for her excessive Protestant executions, and Mary Anne Cotton (aka the Poison Mistress), another English woman known for poisoning as many as 20 people with arsenic.
- Delphine - What a pretty name, no? Too bad (or how fortunate!) that it has been sullied by one Delphine Lalaurie, a New Orleans socialite who dismembered her slaves. Of all the evil historical women featured above, Delphine is perhaps the scariest (she even mutilated her slaves to make them look like crabs and caterpillars by slicing and dismembering them).
- Lizzie - Recommended by drbj in the comments below, Lizzie Borden was suspected of murdering her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892 (she was acquitted, but her infamy lived on and she became an American folk legend).
- Rhonda - Suggested by mega1 in the comments, Rhonda hails from The Bad Seed and had a penchant for dumping bodies down the apartment incinerator shoot.
Evil Girl Names Inspired by Fiction
History is without a doubt full of evil women, but some of the most colorful characters hail from fictional realms. Here are some of the best evil girl names from works of fiction:
- Poison Ivey - Why not start out with a colorful name? Poison Ivey is great- illustrative, fun, horticultural, and associated with one of the coolest comic book villains out there. What's not to love about eco-friendliness?
- Maleficent - An excellent evil-sounding name, Meleficent carries both majesty and cold steel, plus is associated with perhaps the trademark evil Disney Character
- Cruella - Another evil Disney character with an obviously evil sounding name, Cruella is a great name for those choosing something a bit more playful-sounding than Maleficent, which may be a bit too stuffy for all occasions.
- Medea - If you want to have an evil girl name that brings up associations with ruthless revenge, this is an excellent, classic choice.
- Mystique - With the X-men films being so popular and comics also enjoying a (much deserved) rise in popularity, it would be criminal of me to leave Mystique out. The name is fabulous, and contains just the right amount of ambiguity, plus the fictional character is just plain awesome.
- Bellatrix - This name packs a double punch as it is associated not only with the name Belle (see above historical evil names) but also with Bellatrix Lestrange, an exquisitely evil character from the Harry Potter series.
- Ursula - Yes, another Disney name, but Disney knows what they're doing when it comes to evil-sounding names and clearly evil characters. Besides, how can one leave out an octopus? Clearly female octopi are brilliant evil role models.
- O-Ren - A lovely name on its own, O-Ren became even better with the advent of O-Ren Ishii from Kill Bill. Forget the Bride; O-Ren was the best character in the entire film. Besides, two-syllable names make for great evil girl names, as one does not have time to utter long titles when being slain by their proprietresses.
- Lavinia - A lovely villainess from The Little Princess whose evil-sounding name has a wonderful ring of stuck-up-ness to it! Thanks to Kate Spenser for the suggestion :D
- Nina - Recommended by jpmc in the comments, this Nina Myers was an excellent evil character in the 24.
- Medusa - While some evil names are re-appropriated by good people, folks have pretty much left this name alone. The reputation of its first, snake-haired dangerous owner was just too much! Thanks again to drbj for adding this to the list.
- Lamia - Suggested by visionandfocus, this name is associated with a classically evil woman. I mean, what's more classic than having a penchant for devouring kids?
What is YOUR favorite evil girl name?
Did I miss one of your favorite evil girl names above? My mistake. Leave it in the comments, and I'll add it in. After all, there are many evil women out there, both fictional and historical (and contemporary!). It takes a village to name them all!

Thanks, bellawritter23. I see you're lucky enough to have a bit of 'evil' in your lovely username! I say that, of course, in the most complimentary and admiring way :D
I always knew my youngest sister Mary wasn't so innocent...My favorite is Maleficent. She had to be evil since the root of her name means 'bad'. Leave it to Disney to think of evil female names. :) Great hub!
So, I was intrigued and did an "evil name" search. Came up with two that I actually know persons so named...Seth and Lilith. Interesting idea. I think we do affect offspring by the names we give them. But, then on the other hand, my name is Joy. I like it very much, and sometimes I do live up to it, but being human, not always. I'm fascinated with the unusual topics you adopt. Best wishes.
What an original, intriguing idea for a hub, Simone. How about Lizzie for Lizzie Borden who according to legend chopped up her mom and dad with an axe.
And Medusa with the snake-y hair who turned men to stone when they gazed upon her.
Oooh, I'm definitely with drbj on the Lizzie Borden thing (though, for the record, I'm not completely convinced she did it).
I just saw the name Lavinia earlier today and it reminded me of the "mean girl" in The Little Princess - and commented to my mom that it would be a great name for a Villainness. :)
Love Bellatrix, actually I'm a big fan of Helena Bonham Carter. May I add Nina Myers of 24 to the list. She's one of my favorite villains. Beautiful and deadly, such a powerful combination.
Yeah, ThePracticalMommy - Disney really owns in the evil name department!
Seth and Lilith, huh? I looked those up, JSParker, and had totally forgotten that Seth was the god of chaos! I associate the name so much with Seth Meyers that it just makes me feel giggly instead of intimidated, hahaa!
SO adding Lizzie to the list, drbj. Whoah. Scary lady. And of course! Medusa! I've got to add that, too. Thanks!!
You're so right, Kate Spenser - Lavinia is a great vilainess name. Adding that, too.
I'm a huge Helena Bonham Carter dan, too, jpcmc! And Nina Myers was SUCH a good evil woman! Got to add that too. Thanks you!
Remember Rhoda in The Bad Seed - a book I read in my early teens that scared the cr#p out of me! Since you seem to go in for this kind of thing, read it - she was evil enough to dump her dead bodies down the apartment incinerator shoot. The book had plenty of semi-evil people and alot of atmosphere.
Oh, and Bonnie - of Bonnie and Clyde fame - maybe less evil than just trying to have some good old fashioned fun!
Oh, I am going to have to check out that book indeed! Rhonda sounds like one scary character! I've added her to the Hub.
And good point on Bonnie too- but you're right! She was less of a crazy murderess and more of an adventurous deviant!
Well, there's Boadicea the warrior queen (fierce by all accounts) and then all those gorgons (including Medusa) and harpies of Greek mythology (precursors to Rowling's dementors?) And let's not forget Circe (she who turned Odysseus' men into swine), or young Pandora (though she's more mischievous than evil), but perhaps the most evil were Lamia and Lilith. Wouldn't want to name any daughters after this bunch, that's for sure. ;)
Oh, but Boadicea and Circe and Pandora are so fabulous! And Lilith is awesome! I could totally name my daughter that. Though perhaps it'd be a bad idea ^_^;;
Though.. Lamia- that's a good one! I'm adding it!
The title drew me in. Had to see if my name, (Gail) was on the list. Relieved to see it's not associated with an evil serial killer or torturer. (smile). Love the way you kept this light-hearted even though the topic and deeds were so evil. Voted up, funny, awesome and interesting.
Hahaa, you're safe Happyboomernurse!! For NOW............ O_O
Oh wow! This is awesome! I love it! Belle Gunness' farm is just a town away from me. In fact, I was once married to a gentleman who grew up a few houses down from the farm. In the museum in that particular town, there is a whole section dedicated to the story of Belle Gunness. According to the story, when the house burned down they found what they thought was her body. There was a lot of speculation as to whether or not it was her because, supposedly, there were sightings of her in towns afar... plus the head was missing (spooky!) I think just recently they found that the remains were not that of Belle Gunness. (Even spookier...) Pretty interesting stuff!
I do want to add that I knew a girl in Elementary School named Medusa. She was REALLY nice.
(The last bit is a joke.)
Waaaaah! That's so cool, melbel! How spooky is that!?!?! And it would be hilarious if someone actually named Medusa. Well, I'm sure there are at least a handful of girls out there with the name! Mean parents, hehee!
I had completely forgotten about Lizzie Borden until I read this. I watched a movie about her once when I was a kid home alone and it scared me to death - although it probably wouldn't seem that scary if I saw it now. I just remember the chant, "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she had done she gave her father 41"....or something like that.
Irma is such a creepy name! I know so many evil Mary's I never realised...
My best mate is called Myra and my name is Nina. we are both really bad and have been arested (not really. we where let off with a caution lol) Isn't that WIERD!
Did you read about the couple in New Jersey who had named their children three children Adolf Hitler, Aryan Nation, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell? They are currently in care, it must make the hundreds of people on Facebook named 'Wayne King' feel a lot better about their parents choice of name.
Chilling! It's so sad that these girls were based on the real lives of real people. Clearly you did a lot of research writing this article. Well done and good work.
As bad as this sounds, ryankett, Aryan Nation sounds like a really cool name for a band. Doesn't it? Just SOUNDS trendy! Though jeez... those parents are exceedingly strange.
i think Hella is a good evil name for a girl. i dont know where it comes from, i just heard it somewhere. i think it might be pagan or wiccan, something like that
Interesting! Hella, as I know it, is a slang term that emerged from Oakland! It'd be interesting to see it develop into a formal name... it does have a nice ring to it!
•Cruella - an evil name? Yeah...I figured lol
Great hub!
Boudica????(For history)
Good ones!
